Yesterday's WT
by WalkTall inthe whole wt yesterday, which was supposed to be about love, actually centered on how we should react to 'persecutors'.
it was horrible to hear the audience comments...calling 'worldly people' everything from 'they are unkind and mean' to them being 'hateful and unneighborly'.
i sat there and thought about how this 'us vs. them' mentality is the very thing that is contributing to the divisive and separatist world we live in.

I just read chapter 4 of Combatting Cult Mind Control and...

it's strange because even though i decided in sept that this is a false religion, it's still a little overwhelming to read this chapter.
if cult members have two identities, then where is my other identity?

20yr old daughter cant deal with my new self - advice please
by nearlyfree inmy eldest daughter is having a hard time dealing with our new family dynamics.
since my marriage breakup over a year ago, i have finally started to enoy life and fading fast from the jw's , well actually i've done a disappearing act.
i have not attended a meeting for 4 months now!

From what i can see in society in general, young adult children do not want to know that their parents have a life. Add to that, the programing your daughter may have by now kicking in ( i figure she is JW?) , she would be even more down on it.
I left when my kids were little and even though they are being raised by the JW ex wife, my kids see me as kool. (now 13 and 16). I have tattoos, drive a hearse and have a mohawk...
i have attempted to have them see that just because i am 'dad' does not mean i dont have a life. That happiness is not exclusive to following a religion or social norms.
Your daughter needs to be put in her box. tell her to check back in at 45, when she has older eyes. You have a right to a fun happy life and a child is in no position to chide you.
You go girl, grab life and dont let go!

Why do Ex-JWs start celebrating pagan Christmas?
by DubR inhiya guys and gals.
im not trying to be self-righteous but i want to understand the thought process of someone who knows the origins of christmas, but starts celebrating it (putting up christmas tree, exchanging wrapped gifts; repeating merry christmas to everyone they see in the month of december)??
it seems very silly to me (imo) after knowing how and why christmas was created (to cater to pagans sun worship and convert to christianity)!!

i had often wondered the same. I see now that for some it is perhaps more symbolic of being free than anything.
As for myself, i have found it hard to get into, but fortunatly for me, my new wifes family are very understanding of my past, very encouraging and understanding. They dont really get into it heavily but i do now participate freely and are getting used to giving and getting gifts. same goes for bithdays. Her family gave me a 1st birthday party this year!

he can not associate or speak to me.a little history, i have been out since 1987, have moved on.
with my life.the rest of the family( not jw) can not understand why after all this time they are still.

sadly, 99.9% will never know that in 1947 awake, they actually said the very scriptures they now use did not support excomunication. The Catholic excomunication is not as severe as the JW shunning either.
